Project Overview
COLDSNAP is a game from Icebreak Studios, released on Steam, for which I served as Contract Composer from February 2026 to April 2026. The role required balancing creative expression against professional deadlines, writing atmospheric and thematic music that supports the player experience while meeting studio milestones.
The project delivered five original tracks, all of which shipped with the game. Each composition was written for seamless looping and a cohesive musical identity across the soundtrack, so the music does not become repetitive or intrusive during extended gameplay. The first track was completed in one week, the second in two weeks, and the third in nine days.
Original Soundtrack
Below are the compositions I created for COLDSNAP. Each track is designed to loop seamlessly during gameplay, maintaining the game's atmosphere without becoming repetitive or distracting. The full soundtrack is included with the game.
Insulatus Cadmus
An atmospheric piece that establishes the game's mood with haunting melodies and layered textures. Completed in 1 week.
Frozen Rust and Greed's Dust
A dramatic composition that weaves together themes of decay and desire, perfect for tense gameplay moments. Completed in 2 weeks.
Infernic Flare
An intense, high-energy track with driving rhythms and powerful instrumentation for climactic sequences. Completed in 9 days.
Cor Reclamare
An epic battle piece scoring the climactic final mission: the assault on a colossal spider-shaped mech. Driving rhythms and soaring brass carry the desperation and triumph of the endgame. Completed in 2 weeks.
The SNAP Epic Begins
The fifth and final track of the COLDSNAP soundtrack, serving as the main menu theme. It is available in-game; get COLDSNAP on Steam to hear it.

Composer Reflection
Composing for COLDSNAP was a masterclass in balancing creative ambition with professional deadlines. Working on five tracks with an April 2026 delivery date taught me how to manage my creative process: knowing when to iterate, when to commit, and how to maintain quality while respecting the studio's timeline. The first three tracks were completed in one week, two weeks, and nine days respectively, demonstrating my ability to deliver polished work efficiently.
The seamless looping across all tracks took the most technical attention. Game music is not film scoring. Players might hear the same track for minutes or even hours. I developed creative techniques like melodic phrases that resolve back to the beginning, evolving layered textures that introduce subtle variations each cycle, and harmonic progressions that feel complete yet perpetual. The result is music that can loop indefinitely without ever feeling stale or jarring.
Maintaining a cohesive musical identity across five diverse tracks was another key challenge. I established recurring motifs, a consistent harmonic palette, and signature instrumentation choices that tie the soundtrack together, while still allowing each piece to serve its unique gameplay purpose. Whether it's the haunting atmosphere of "Insulatus Cadmus" or the intense energy of "Infernic Flare," every track feels like part of the same musical world.
Most importantly, I designed this music to be non-intrusive. Great game music enhances the experience without demanding attention. It supports player focus rather than disrupting it. By carefully managing dynamics, using space and silence strategically, and avoiding abrasive repetition, I created a soundtrack that players can live with for hours without fatigue.
