COLDSNAP
Original Score for Icebreak Studios
Project Overview
COLDSNAP is an upcoming game project from Icebreak Studios, for which I serve as Contract Composer from February 2026 to April 2026. This role challenges me to balance creative expression with professional deadlines, creating atmospheric and thematic music that enhances the player experience while meeting studio milestones.
The project scope includes five original tracks, with three completed and two more in progress before the April deadline. Each composition is crafted with careful attention to seamless looping, maintaining a cohesive musical identity across the entire soundtrack while ensuring the music never feels repetitive or intrusive during extended gameplay. The first track was completed in one week, the second in two weeks, and the third in nine days, demonstrating efficient creative workflows under professional deadlines.

Composer Reflection
Composing for COLDSNAP has been a masterclass in balancing creative ambition with professional deadlines. Working on five tracks with an April 2026 delivery date taught me how to manage my creative process: knowing when to iterate, when to commit, and how to maintain quality while respecting the studio's timeline. The first three tracks were completed in one week, two weeks, and nine days respectively, demonstrating my ability to deliver polished work efficiently.
One of my proudest achievements on this project is the seamless looping I implemented across all tracks. Game music isn't like film scoring. Players might hear the same track for minutes or even hours. I developed creative techniques like melodic phrases that resolve back to the beginning, evolving layered textures that introduce subtle variations each cycle, and harmonic progressions that feel complete yet perpetual. The result is music that can loop indefinitely without ever feeling stale or jarring.
Maintaining a cohesive musical identity across five diverse tracks was another key challenge. I established recurring motifs, a consistent harmonic palette, and signature instrumentation choices that tie the soundtrack together, while still allowing each piece to serve its unique gameplay purpose. Whether it's the haunting atmosphere of "Insulatus Cadmus" or the intense energy of "Infernic Flare," every track feels like part of the same musical world.
Most importantly, I designed this music to be non-intrusive. Great game music enhances the experience without demanding attention. It supports player focus rather than disrupting it. By carefully managing dynamics, using space and silence strategically, and avoiding abrasive repetition, I created a soundtrack that players can live with for hours without fatigue.
